When the need arose to move to another server, an esteemed lissun stepped forward, and volunteered to establish a harbor for the gunroom. The Harbor Master has gone above and beyond the call of duty in the establishment of that harbor. The configuration has gone from one computer to serve the list, to three computers that provide the list, web server, WikiPOBia, DNS (addressing services, essentially) and uninterruptible power supplies for all of this. The Harbor Master has upgraded the equipment that had originally been donated, and has built a new compter from scratch at personal expense. Your List Admins have decided to bring this to the Gunroom's attention so that we might raise some funds to reimburse the Harbor Master for some of these costs.
Additionally, your List Admins feel that it would benefit the list to upgrade from our current ListServ Lite software to the ListServ Classic software. We will have the ability to run 20 lists, with a great deal of improvement to the management abilities we have now, as well as significant security improvements(those that would like to see the technical details are invited to review the LSoft website.
To this end, we would like to set a goal of $3000 US. $1500 will go to the Harbor Master to cover some of the already incurred expenses and a few future plans (backup, better power management) and $1500 will cover the cost of the software upgrade.
Donations will be kept anonymous, and any contribution will be welcome. Making a contribution is completely voluntary, and everyone is welcome to the list, whether you choose to make a contribution or not. The only requirement to be part of the list remains a willingness to read and/or discuss the works of Patrick O'Brian, and everything else.

Paypal is an internet payment service, widely used on E-Bay and similar sites. Paypal allows you to send payments through your MasterCard or Visa as a purchase (not a cash advance) or through an electronic funds transfer from your checking account. You can also deposit money to your own Paypal account and earn Money Market interest rates on it.
If you have a Paypal account, you can send a contribution to finches@bellatlantic.net through Paypal. If you do not currently have one, you can go to https://www.paypal.com and open one quite easily.
Checks drawn on US banks or International Postal Money Orders (available for a nominal charge at post offices in most countries) in US Dollars, can be made payable to Larry Finch and mailed to:
